Driving Nepal Toward a Cleaner, Connected Future

SET4Nepal, formally known as Sustainable Electric Transport for Nepal (SET4NPL), is a national-level initiative working to transform how Nepal moves. Backed by GIZ and the Global Green Growth Institute, and implemented in cooperation with Nepal's Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the project is pushing the country's public transport ecosystem toward electric vehicles, digital ticketing, and a nationwide charging network. At its heart, SET4Nepal is a climate commitment: a deliberate effort to reduce emissions, modernize infrastructure, and make clean mobility accessible to everyday passengers and operators alike.

Challenge

SET4Nepal was already doing meaningful work, deploying electric minibuses, expanding EV charging stations, and building digital ticketing tools, but none of it was visible online. Without a website, a project of this scale had no central place to communicate its mission, share progress, or connect with the transport operators, investors, and government partners it needed to reach. The absence was not just a gap in digital presence; it was a barrier to credibility and collaboration. For a project funded by international climate bodies and tied to Nepal's Paris Agreement commitments, the stakes of being invisible were real.

Approach

A project like SET4Nepal needed more than a brochure on the internet. It needed a platform that could hold complexity without feeling heavy, one that could speak to electric vehicle operators, policy partners, and ordinary passengers without losing any of them. Our approach began with understanding the layered nature of the initiative: its technical depth, its governance structure, and its ambition to drive systemic change. From there, we focused on translating that ambition into a digital experience that felt authoritative yet accessible, clear enough for a first-time visitor and detailed enough for a government stakeholder or international funder. Every design decision was guided by one question: does this build trust in the mission?

A Platform Build for Purpose

SET4Nepal operates across multiple fronts, including electric bus fleets, charging infrastructure, digital payments, and operator support programs, and the website needed to reflect that without overwhelming visitors. We structured the information architecture to surface each pillar clearly, allowing users to understand the full scope of the project at a glance and go deeper where it mattered most. The goal was coherence: a site that felt unified even as it covered a wide and technically complex landscape.

Built for Two Audiences

SET4Nepal serves a project that is simultaneously local and international. Its partners are global institutions; its impact is felt on the streets of Kathmandu. To reflect that, the website was built to work fully in both English and Nepali. This was not simply a translation exercise. Each language version was structured to speak to its audience on its own terms, with English oriented toward international partners, funders, and the broader climate community, and Nepali speaking directly to the transport operators, local government stakeholders, and everyday users the project is built to serve. Getting the bilingual experience right meant ensuring that neither version felt like an afterthought.

Making the Mission Visible

One of the most important things a website can do for a project like this is make abstract goals feel real. SET4Nepal's targets, including 3,500 electric buses, expanded charging networks, and digital ticketing across public transport, are ambitious numbers with genuine human stakes. The site gives each of these goals the space and context they deserve, so visitors understand not just what the project is doing, but what it is building toward. Through thoughtful content hierarchy and clear visual framing, we helped the project's story come through in a way that resonates with the full range of people it is trying to reach.

Reaching Every Stakeholder

SET4Nepal's audience is unusually wide: daily commuters, fleet operators, charging station investors, government officials, and international climate partners. Rather than designing for a single user type, we built a site that could serve all of them, with each visitor finding what they need without friction. Clear navigation, well-organized program information, and accessible contact pathways ensured that whether someone arrived looking for technical details on the EMB Support Package or simply wanted to understand the project's scope, they could find their footing quickly.
